12/13/2011 | Select the Optimized Linear System in Minutes with Linear MOTIONEERING® 2.0 Web-based Sizing and Selection Tool from Thomson

Linear MOTIONEERING 2.0 significantly streamlines the machine design process and helps improve machine performance by simply entering a few key application parameters

WOOD DALE, IL –?Thomson introduces Linear MOTIONEERING® 2.0. The latest version of the company’s powerful web-based linear motion system sizing and selection tool, Linear MOTIONEERING 2.0 enables OEM and factory automation users to optimize machine design and operation by walking them through an intuitive process that delivers all the data necessary to make a quick, logical system selection in just minutes. Linear MOTIONEERING 2.0 includes the global Thomson product offering, along with enhanced graphics and a streamlined user-interface.? Also new to version 2.0 is a sort-and-filter feature that enables users to quickly and easily organize and compare all the solutions that fit the specific application requirements.

“With Linear MOTIONEERING 2.0 users simply enter information on system orientation, positioning requirements, environmental conditions, load and force, and move profile requirements.? The program then provides a list of recommended and linear system solutions by technology type to satisfy specific application needs.? Outputs include 2D and 3D CAD models in multiple formats, pricing, delivery times and ordering information with a single part number,” says Jim Marek, Business Unit Manager, Thomson Systems.

Linear MOTIONEERING is the single most comprehensive system sizing and selection tool available today, and offers a number of particularly unique benefits that will help users select the ideal solution for their particular application.? A motor interface selector enables users to enter motor dimensions, or any major manufacturer’s motor model number, and the system automatically configures the mating flange and coupling.? Linear MOTIONEERING also provides safety factors for critical system components, allowing users to make a decision based not just on price, but on the safety margin of his or her selection. Users can change the move profile and calculate the resulting loads and safety factors on the fly, and an environmental screen guides the user not only to the base system selection, but also displays appropriate options such as material and coatings that are suitable for that environment.

The product solution recommended by Linear MOTIONEERING, including any accessories and motor mounts, is assigned a “Smart Part Number” that the machine builder can use to order the linear motion system with all accessories pre-mounted and ready for integration into the machine.? Linear MOTIONEERING provides a detailed specification of the system and a summary of the loading and motion profiles, as well as an instant download of a complete 2D and 3D CAD model provided in all of the most common CAD formats.? This enables the user to select and specify the optimum linear motion system, and then load it into his machine design in a matter of minutes.? In addition, the user can view the list price and lead-time information, and even request a quote online.

Linear MOTIONEERING also allows users to configure a system based on system type or from an existing part number, thus providing three different modes of functionality.? The Sizing and Selection mode is the all-encompassing process that accepts information and delivers a solution, along with commercial and technical collateral information. The Configure Your Solution mode provides all of the same deliverables as the Sizing and Selection mode, but is intended for those who are familiar with Thomson products and want to quickly configure a part number.? The Lookup by Part Number module is a way for repeat customers to confirm current pricing and part number configuration.
